In COVER LETTER on April 29, 2010 at 12:29 am

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in the Online/Consultant/SEO/Editorial/Marketing position. Currently, I am pursuing my master’s and I am eager to join an organization where I can use my skills in marketing, writing, editing, proofreading, research, and critical analysis. Based on my knowledge of your organization I believe that my educational background and abilities would be an excellent match for the position you offer.

Through my academic work in the English language, Political Science, food/wine, fashion, social media, literature, and writing, I am prepared to make meaningful contributions to editorial discussions, marketing, pitching, and social media. In addition to my university training, I have held editorial positions with The Word, the Hunter College undergraduate literary arts journal, The New York Observer, Time Out New York, and Resource Magazine, an independent fashion and photo production magazine/blog based in New York City.

Recently,as a reporter, project coordinator, consultant, Web 2.0 enthusiast, and blogger, I covered the gamut of stories that make up city life. I have also worked in smaller markets, such as independent publications and magazines. I pitched an idea for a profile on bodega life, workers in bodegas, and bodega culture. Plus I have pitched stories with an emphasis on inherited wealth within New York City, and models in the fashion industry. I would bring the same strong work ethic and passion to your company, organization, or publication. I know that your industry has been pushing for excellence in recent years, and I would love to be part of that drive.

These positions have provided me with experience in editing, proofreading, fact checking, production scheduling, working with off-site vendors, sales, marketing, and customer service. My positions within small publications and start-ups have taught me to manage my time efficiently to meet deadlines, adapt readily to new responsibilities, work as a team member, and function well under pressure. The writing skills that I developed through my background as a Media Studies and Political Science double Major. My experience enabled me to write concise, persuasive descriptions of city life, fashion, photography, art, travel, and food/wine. It has also afforded me an in-depth understanding of the important and varied behind- the-scenes work involved in Web 2.0. blogging, marketing, social media, and editorial.

I hope you’ll agree that the combination of my academic training, editorial, marketing, and social media work provides me with excellent preparation for the demands of this position. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ana Callahan
